Making art is how I make sense of this wonderful life. My artistic search for El Dorado keeps the dream alive and gives my soul wings and song. I share these passions through my expressions and your interpretation. I use sketches as the basis for most all works. The first thoughts manifest on paper. The studio spirit then takes over with traditional and solar plate intaglio printmaking, alkyd and walnut oil painting, acrylic, watercolor, wax resist mono printing, digital use of Lightroom and Photoshop CC with a drawing tablet. I still paint outdoors whenever possible. Standing in a field with easel, paint, and canvas still brings out the wild and free of heart.
I have always loved to delve into code and cipher, riddles and puzzles, rhyme and wit. Several works contain embedded clues to other ways of seeing what is viewed.

Art gives us unique visions and experiences to exhort our spirits to a new or higher level. We feel something beyond ourselves.

Mike Gross is a great grandfather artist living in Northwestern Kansas. Retired from the world of advertising image production with emphasis on photographic illustration. The University of Kansas and Fort Hays State University were the studios for medium experimentation and method exploitation without a professional commitment. Aside from advertising Mike spent many weekends and evenings as an event photographer in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and surrounding area as well as operating a traditional custom color photo lab and developing the first digital image restoration business in the Pittsburgh area, using a beta version of Photoshop 1.5 and the original Agfa high definition flat bed scanner and digital film recorder. What a trip! Now he spends his time making art works for the family business known as The Ferdinand Press, ferdinandpress.com, which links to this site as well.
